AAC Inc. Joins the Cisco AVVID Partner Program
PhoneTop™ K-12 meets Cisco AVVID Program Requirements for Interoperability
June 25, 2003
VIENNA, Virginia AAC Inc. today announced that it has joined the Cisco AVVID (Architecture for Voice and Video Integrated Data) Partner Program as an IP Telephony Solutions member.
"AAC's PhoneTop K-12 software running on Cisco IP phones has proven to be an invaluable tool for our schools for increasing end-user productivity levels by simplifying and automating many of the daily administrative tasks teachers have to perform," said Doug Bowlds, vice president of AAC’s Convergent Technologies Division.
The Cisco AVVID Partner Program sets criteria for interoperability testing by independent third parties and enables leading product and services firms to deploy innovative e-business solutions. The program provides enterprise customers with information regarding Cisco AVVID Partner products and services that an independent testing facility has tested and found to interoperate with Cisco networking technology. PhoneTop K-12 v3.2 has been found to meet the Cisco AVVID Partner Program criteria for interoperability with Cisco CallManager 3.3. Cisco CallManager is the software-based call-processing component of Cisco AVVID. CallManager software extends enterprise telephony features and capabilities to packet telephony network devices such as IP phones, media processing devices, voice-over-IP (VoIP) gateways, and multimedia applications.
Teachers can use the PhoneTop K-12 on a Cisco IP Phone 7940 or a Cisco IP Phone 7960 to:
- Take Period and Daily Attendance. Allows teachers to take attendance via the phone and administrators to monitor and modify the attendance information. The attendance application includes the student’s photo so that new or substitute teachers can verify the student’s identity. The attendance program informs the teachers of pre-approved absences, birthdays, and students with perfect attendance records for the present quarter. .
- Issue and Monitor Electronic Hall Passes. Allows school faculty to issue halls passes on the phone. School personnel can also monitor and manage the outstanding halls passes. The identity of the student can be verified by checking the on-line photograph. .
- Conduct Time Keeping Activities. Provides a mechanism by which temporary or hourly personnel can log their time in and out of the system. The module also provides an historical record of the time worked by the employee. .
- Issue Daily Bulletins. Provides the school with the ability to issue important information to all school faculty personnel in a timely and efficient fashion. .
- Call Faculty Members by Function. Provides school faculty with the ability to call school personnel based on their job function rather than their name. This is especially useful in large schools and for new teachers, substitute teachers and interns. .
- Manage Student Information. Allows for management of student activities, including early dismissals, pre-approving absences, viewing contact and enrolment information and today’s activities (including historical data). .
- Conduct Visitor/Intern Control. Helps schools to tighten facility security by supplying pictures of visitors, contractor personnel, and interns throughout the school campus. If a teacher sees someone who they do not recognize, the teacher can quickly verify that the school front office has accepted that person as a visitor to the school.
"AAC and Cisco support open, standards-based architectures and share a commitment to interoperable solutions, said David Tucker, Cisco's director of marketing development, IP Communications Business Unit. "Through this vision, the Cisco AVVID Partner Program delivers the power of choice to enterprisesthe ability to extend the Cisco end-to-end architecture with our members' world-class products and technologies. With Cisco AVVID partner offerings such as AAC PhoneTop K-12, customers can deploy a broad range of e-business solutions which foster innovation and drive rapid adoption of business-critical technologies."
