What is PhoneTop?
PhoneTop is the word mark for AAC Inc.'s collection of award-winning XML and JTAPI products designed to work in the Cisco Unified Communications environment. PhoneTop applications provide organizations with the ability to “Go Beyond Dial Tone®” by leveraging the phones' ability to process XML information.

What is XML?
XML, eXtensible Markup Language, is the universal format for structured documents and data on the Web and provides a mechanism by which text, graphics, and other forms of data can be displayed on the Cisco IP Phones. The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) provides an excellent reference site on XML.

What is Unified Communications?
Cisco Unified Communications allows businesses to collaborate in real time using advanced applications from an integrated, easy-to-use interface. Visit Cisco for details.

What does Cisco Compatible mean?
Cisco Compatible means that a 3rd party has developed a product which compliments the Cisco AVVID product solution. This product must have undergone and passed Independent Verification Testing (IVT) by an approved Cisco testing partner. Upon passing IVT, the product is declared "Cisco Compatible."

How can I receive an evaluation copy?
You can request an evaluation copy by submitting this brief form. This evaluation copy is fully functional but limited to phones. You can, however, choose which 10 phones to use for evaluation.

How is PhoneTop packaged?
PhoneTop comes in three flavors:
  • PhoneTop Messenger supplied as downloadable software.
  • PhoneTop Alerts supplied preloaded on a special appliance.
  • PhoneTop K-12 supplied as downloadable software or on a special appliance.

  • How are PhoneTop products licensed?
    PhoneTop products are licensed as follows:
  • PhoneTop K-12 or EDU: A single server license fee is charged and a nominal fee is applied for each end user phone (hard or soft) that will be used to run the PhoneTop application.
  • PhoneTop Alerts: A single license is charged.
  • PhoneTop Messenger: A license for each end user phone is charged.

  • What type of warranty comes with PhoneTop products?
    PhoneTop comes with a 90 day warranty against bugs and defects.

    If I have a school system with multiple schools, do I need a PhoneTop K-12 server system at each school?
    Provided your schools are networked via an Intranet capability, a single PhoneTop server is all that is needed to deploy PhoneTop software to each school in the network. The server will need to be sized based on the number of schools and phones, etc. PhoneTop is implemented as a web server precisely to accommodate such environments.

    What's the difference between PhoneTop K-12 and PhoneTop EDU?
    PhoneTop K-12 is our award-winning suite of XML applications designed to help education systems in the United States of America with automating many of their administrative actions. It applies to grades Kindergarten through 12th grade.

    PhoneTop EDU is the same as PhoneTop K-12 except it's been tailored specifically for deployment within the statutory education system found in England.

    What are the minimum hardware platform requirements for PhoneTop?
    For PhoneTop Messenger:
  • Pentium 4 or better
  • Windows 2000/2003 server
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 40GB Disk

    For PhoneTop K-12 or EDU:
  • Please contact us to fill out a questionnaire to help us size the server for your specific environment.

  • What student management information systems does PhoneTop work with?
    PhoneTop works with most any student management information system. If the school system desires non-obtrusive interaction, information contained in PhoneTop can be submitted to/from the school’s student information system via automatic file transfers (e.g., scripted). More direct interfaces to certain student management information systems, such as NCS/Pearson’s SASIxp, are also possible. Please inform us of your requirements by contacting sales@phonetop.com

    What Cisco IP Phones does PhoneTop work with?
    PhoneTop works with all IP Phones which support XML.

    What Cisco CallManager versions does PhoneTop work with?
    PhoneTop works with CallManager v3.x, 4.x, 5.x, 6.x and 7.x. PhoneTop also works with CallManager Express v3.1 or higher.

    How many phones currently run PhoneTop applications?
    At last count, over 100,000 Cisco IP Phones are running PhoneTop.
